Hot Tip of the Month- February 2003: "Bike Rotation"
Ever look around the room as a class is in session and notice that the most
intense students are usually located in the front half of the room? The newbies
are usually lurking somewhere in the back ,trying to blend with the paint on
the back wall. Now, take a look at the condition of the bikes in the front of
the room as opposed to the back of the room. Usually, the bikes in the front
get hammered the most because the hardcore riders are up front. This will unbalance
the condition of the bikes over time. In a perfect world ,all the bikes would
look new every day, every class. But what’s usually the case is; the bikes
that are beat, are up front, the bikes in the back look best. Rotating your
bikes front to back, back to front will also put bikes that are out of sight;
up front and under scrutiny. If a bike is way towards the back of the room and
there is a noise or mechanical problem, it may not get noticed, if you rotate
and the more experienced riders hear or fell something is up with the bike they
are riding, the instructor will probably know about it sooner.
