Hot Tip of the Month- March 2007: “Lubricating the
Resistance Mechanism”
When your bikes arrive brand new out of the box; everything is dry. The resistance
mechanisms are no exception. Weather it’s a Schwinn IC or a Star Trac
Spinner; the resistance knob connects to a rods with threads on it that runs
through a block. Without occasional lubrication, the “feeling” that
the rider experiences when adjusting resistance will suffer. On the Schwinn
bikes; pull the knob up to expose the thread barrel; then shoot a bit of Tri-flow
on the thread barrel, it will trickle down to the block. On Star Trac bikes;
use a “drip” type of lubricant bottle; Tri-flow is what I prefer.
Trickle several “pulses” of lube onto the rod where it enters the
frame, it will run down the rod into the frame and hit the block. This makes
ALL the difference in the world. Another FREEBIE from the fine folks at StudioCycles
