Hot Tip of the Month- May 2003: "Why are my Handlebars
always so hard to move?"
Because the handlebars are in such close proximity to the path of sweat from
the rider; this area is always the hardest hit. Usually when the sweat hits
the bars; it runs down into the frame, and if this isn’t cleaned periodically,
will cause rust. If you have rust on your handlebar tower; the best way to remove
it is with VERY fine steel wool. Also, if you are using a silicone spray to
promote mobility, the build up from this spray over time will actually slow
down the handlebars ability to move. Remove this the same way, VERY fine steel
wool. Check the condition of the plastic sleeve that lines the inside of the
frame, if it is cracked or has heavy signs of wear, replace it.
