Hot Tip of the Month- July 2003: "How to “prep”
your new bikes."
You finally get your new bikes. The last thing you want is a repeat of the problems
from your previous bikes. Generally speaking, when bikes are delivered to clubs,
the set –up leaves much to be desired, and much to do. Think about the
big picture. When you need to perform a repair or make an adjustment, you want
it to go smoothly. Just about ANYTHING on the bike that has threads should be
removed and grease should be applied. I’m talking about pedals, chain-guard
hardware, water-cage hardware, feet (levelers), etc. In 6 months to a year when
its time to replace a water cage or a bottom bracket, if you “prepped”
your bikes, it will be MUCH easier. If you don’t, you WILL wish you had!
