Hot Tip of the Month- July 2007: “What happens when a new bike is “thrown” together?”

When you as a consumer; buys a bike in the box or the gym you go to has a wham bam careless assembly done, the bike literally starts to deteriorate on the first ride. If the drive train is over tightened or the flywheel alignment is off, the pitch on the chain wheel and flywheel sprocket can be compromised to the point; where you can no longer get a near perfect adjustment. If the pop pins aren’t secured into the frame when built, they can work loose over a short period of time and compromise the frame. Failing to lubricate the pedal spindles before installation and use can cause the spindle to seize in the crank arm, preventing replacement down the road. Failing to torque the Bottom Bracket hardware can fry the assembly in months rather than years. Riding a new bike with a loose crank bolt can cause MAJOR damage and serious injury. Untorqued saddle hardware can cause the saddle to slip causing discomfort or even injury. This list could go on and on. A proper assembly can eliminate ALL of these issues. Check out Volume 5: New Bike Set Up and Assembly. It has ALL the answers to your new bike issues!
