Hot Tip of the Month- August 2007: “Protecting the floor under your bike”

Many of the commercial bikes I sell go into residential settings. Maybe a family room with Berber carpets, or perhaps you’re setting up the bike on custom hardwood flooring. Whatever the case may be; a bike mat should be considered. And if you do opt for a rubber mat, make sure you spend a few bucks and buy something that doesn’t wear out in a few months because it’s low grade or thin and flimsy. I use a rubber mat in my home to protect the carpets. The mat should be lifted and cleaned periodically to prevent mold and mildew from damaging your flooring. You can find decent mats at most sporting goods stores.Spinning.com has a great mat in their store for around $25.00. That’s a great price, considering you’ll spend closer to 40-50 bucks anywhere else for a decent mat.
