Hot Tip of the Month- November 2006: “The NXT Bottom
Bracket”
The Bottom bracket on the Star Trac NXT has some personality. It is pretty
well built, but it won’t take care of itself. It does go through a break
in period and it will loosen up after 1-3 months of commercial level use. Also,
the crank arms need attention just like any other tapered spindle type set up.
So if you don’t keep the crank bolts torqued to their correct TFP, you
will have mechanical issues and broken bikes. The NXT has been through several
BB design phases, so if you do have problems, contact Star Trac; describe your
problem, and they are REALLY good about taking care of issues with their products.
I will have a new manual dedicated to the new generation Star Trac bikes out
sometime next year. Happy Holidays!
